Following Jesus wherever we are
The church where no stranger needs to feel strange.
Worship Service is a joyful spirtual occasion.
Worship service at Mt. Zion perhaps can best be characterized as one that has evolved into the right mixture of a tradition and contemporary style. The church's motto "A church where no stranger needs to feel strange" rings true in the worship service. The worshiper who responds by sitting quietly, or one who responds by the waving of a hand,or the shedding of a tear is just as comfortable as one who responds more jubilantly with an audible a-men, or one who rises to his or her feet. A typical worship service at Mt. Zion is one and a half hours in duration.
We want to welcome our new pastor, Elder Kimberly Fortune. Pastor Fortune, having answered God’s call to shepherd His people with faith, wisdom, and compassion, will serve as the 11th Pastor of Mt. Zion Baptist Church in Bumpass, Virginia. Prior to this appointment, she served faithfully as an Associate Minister at Galilee Baptist Church Louisa in Kents Store, Virginia, under the leadership of Senior Pastor Elder Ruben Lewis, Jr. A lifelong member of Galilee, she was licensed on December 1, 2001, and ordained on October 6, 2007. Throughout her ministry journey, she has served in numerous capacities, including Sunday School and Bible Study teacher and Chair of the Ministerial Council. Pastor Fortune holds a dual degree in Sociology and Communications from James Madison University and an Executive Master of Business degree from Virginia Commonwealth University. She also serves professionally as the Employee and Organizational Strategy Operations Manager for the Virginia Department of Social Services. Raised in Louisa County by Deacon Emeritus Ashland and Sister Mary Fortune, Pastor Fortune treasures her family, which includes her sister, Dianna, and her nephew, Keith. Her ministry is deeply rooted in faith and obedience to God’s call, drawing inspiration from Isaiah 61:1—her life scripture and commissioning mandate—to comfort the disturbed and disturb the comfortable:
“The Spirit of the Sovereign LORD is on me because the LORD has anointed me to proclaim good news to the poor. He has sent me to bind up the brokenhearted, to proclaim freedom for the captives and release from darkness for the prisoners."
